How Many Hashtags Should I Use Per Post?

I get this question all the time from Marketers and Businesses that I work with. How many Hashtags should I put on posts? Well, that my friend is going to depend on which Social Network we are talking about.

What is a Hashtag?

A hashtag is a certain type of metadata tag or some people say keyword or keyword phrase that uses the same symbol we used to call a pound sign on a pay phone back in the day. I know, I know, the pound sign turned into a hashtag? WTF!?!

So essentially what a hashtag does, when used in Social Media is that it creates a promotional buzz around a set of metadata tags and or keywords that helps to organize online content under that specific hashtag (formerly known as the pound sign).

This shows you some of the search results throughout the years about myself on twitter when I search for the hashtag of my name. You should try and search your personal # name, or business name sometime and see what results come up. You might be surprised what type of content comes up, or maybe there is nothing.

So if you are looking at this online aggregation of results under the hashtag of my name #Suereea for example, then you find information about me, that person, place, or thing that you are clicking on the hashtag about.

For example, this content below would be clicked on from my personal Hashtag on Twitter, then to my Instagram Account @suereea. Hashtags are a great way to promote yourself or your Business online. It also will help give people a larger picture sense and feeling of your Brand. This happens when they can find a lot of great content on the various Social Networks under your personalized Hashtag(s).
